One Black Rose #4

Here's a quote from the next One Black Rose, available Friday!!

The thing was, I had known that Autumn loved one of the princes in question, and though there might have been talk of her simply walking away, that had never been in the cards. For all practical purposes Autumn had become a Fairy from the moment she set foot in the Portland airport and met Holt.
“I think she’ll make a great Queen,” I said.

One Black Rose and Paranormal Public Updates!!

Hi Everyone,

I've gotten a few questions about One Black Rose future books and when the next Paranormal Public will be out. So, I thought I'd do a post and let you all know! :-)

First for Paranormal Public. The third book in the series, tentatively titled Elemental Dawn, is set for release in November. When I have a hard and fast date I will let you all know. I am hoping to have a little surprise for the cover and am really excited about it!

One Black Rose continued:

I started out writing Susan's Summer as a spin-off, but through the writing I found myself talking about the Roths and Cheshires a lot. I realized that there was more to this story and I've decided to write it. This next book is from Susan's Point of view, the summer after Holt has died. Samuel, Autumn, and Logan came up regularly, and I realized that I needed to tell their stories as well. I'm not sure what form this will take, but I am thinking of at least one more book from Susan's perspective, and eventually returning to Autumn's. I'm really excited about this, because I love the fairy world they are in and how the characters are coming into their own. :-)

Susan's Summer, One Black Rose #4, will be released next Friday!!

E-mail Issues :/

This is probably only for a random few of you, but it seems my e-mail has been compromised, or something. Not sure yet. It might involve me getting a new e-mail address, but apparently e-mails I have been sending have not actually reached their intended recipients and a few e-mails people have sent me haven't gotten through to me. And if you are like my mom let me answer the first question she asked me, no, I know the missing e-mails are not in the Spam folder, because I DO check it. :-)

I try to answer everyone's messages, so if you have sent me something and I haven't responded please send it again and I am sorry for being a delinquent e-mailer. It was not intentional, so I'm frustrated. Usually I like to choose when I'm behaving like a delinquent.

Happy start to the week!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I went to see the movie Liberal Arts and it was pretty cute. Definitely check it out if you are searching for something to see! Now, to my news. In honor of Susan's Summer releasing soon tomorrow I am making One Black Rose free on Amazon for five days. While that is happening I am going to drop the price of August to .99 cents, so if you haven't picked up a copy of either of those head on over to Amazon! :-)

Susan's Summer on Goodreads!!

Hi Everyone,

Susan's Summer, which is a spin-off from the One Black Rose series, is almost done! It follows Holt and Logan Roth's cousin Susan as she deals with the aftermath of what happened in the One Black Rose Series. Susan was in all three One Black Rose books as a good friend to Autumn whenever she needed one. She was also very close with Holt and I thought it would be awesome if Susan's story was told as well!

In Susan's Summer, Susan is forced to deal with the pain of her loss and her own questions on love and her place in the fairy world!

I'm really excited that the listing on Goodreads is now live! Check it out :-)

Paranormal Public is FREE and other news

Hiya Everyone,

First, I want to let you all know that Paranormal Public is free this week on Amazon! Check it out :-)

Also, I've gotten a lot of questions about when I will be releasing sequels to my other series. I thought it was time to update you all on what I am working on.

So, the next book out is going to be Susan's Summer. It's in the One Black Rose universe and follows Holt and Logan's cousin Susan. It's set after the events of the first three One Black Roses and there are a lot of mentions of the Roths and Cheshires! :-)

And of course, the Paranormal Public series. I decided to give myself a little ask and answer, so here it is:

Maddy, is there going to be a third book in the Paranormal Public Series?
Most definitely!

Maddy, do you know what this third book will be about?
Yup. I have an outline and story arc that I want to follow.

Maddy, is there going to be a tad more romance?
Yes, outlook looks good!

Maaaaddy, have you written that book yet?
Well, technically no. I have written the first chapter, because Lisabelle just HAD to do something and I couldn't get it out of my head until I let her do it, so I wrote it. As I've said before I am pretty fast once I get writing and since I have an outline I'm excited to start on it.

Maddy, do you have a title?
I am thinking Elemental Burn, but I haven't totally landed on one yet. I must take a poll of my dear ones and get their input.

When will these books be released?
I am hoping that Susan's Summer is September. There's a pretty good working draft and now the editor needs to look at it and I need to do some tweaking, then it should be ready to go. Elemental Burn is less clear, but unless disaster strikes it should be by the end of the year and hopefully much sooner. When I have a better idea, i.e. a draft I am happy with, I will let you all know.

That's it for now. Please feel free to leave other questions here for me to answer if I missed anything, or message me privately if you'd rather :-)

Spiral will be FREE

I've decided to make Spiral free on Amazon for the next five days, so, tell your family, friends, acquaintances, people you pass on the street, people who stand behind, and in front of you, in lines, people you used to know and want to re-connect with. It would be a great conversation starter, something like, "Hey, we went to elementary school together. Yes, I DID love our 3rd grade teacher. Maddy's new book Spiral is free on Amazon!!" Okay, so maybe there needs to be more of a segue, but you get the idea ;-) Enjoy.

Spiral Quote # 2

This is a quote from pretty early on. Enjoy :-)

I wasn’t about to admit it to my friends, not with sleeping and the nightmares that came with it looming in front of me, but I really hoped that Jill’s funny feeling turned out to be right this time. My whole body had tingled every time I looked at Pierce, and I thought it was definitely something I could get used to. I just wished I knew more about who he really was.
“He kept looking your way,” Maxie hissed at me.
I scoffed. “He’s out of my league. He’s so far out of my league I can’t even see the league he’s in. They don’t even associate.”
Maxie shook her head. “He kept looking your way.”
It stirred something deep inside me, something that Maxie had talked about ad nauseam, but not something I ever pictured for myself. I had never thought I could have that. Now that I had seen Pierce, I wasn't so sure.

Spiral Quote

“Oh Pierce, didn’t see you there,” I said, examining my cup like it was my job.
“Sure you didn’t,” said Pierce dryly. “How am I ever supposed to impress you if you don’t follow me around?”
“You can impress me anytime,” said Maxie. “You already have.”
"Sorry, but you probably can’t impress me. I'm not attracted to tall guys,” said Jill, craning her neck upwards to look at Pierce. He wasn’t that tall, but he was an inch or two over six feet.
"I'm attracted to all guys,” said Maxie, grinning. “Jill, you should be more positive. You're mean when we talk about guys."
"As opposed to other times when I’m a sweetheart," said Jill.
“See? She acknowledges the bright side, then she discards it,” said Maxie, exasperated.

FRIDAY

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to send an update out and thank you all for being so patient :-) Well, my editor and I have decided that Spiral is almost ready to go and we will hopefully be uploading it on Friday *cue epic sigh and a muttered "at long last!"* So, in anticipation of that I will be sending out some quotes from Spiral each day this week! Yay! Soooo I am excited. I hope you are excited!

Spiral Update

So, Spiral. I have a pretty cover up for it and a description and it's been written and sent to my editor twice, and yet it's not up! Why? Here's the explanation.

Basically, both my editor and I feel like there is something missing. After the first round of writing I had three people read it and they offered wonderful suggestions, and I liked it a lot better, but there was still something wrong. My editor just read it again and we agree that it's still missing something.

So.

I have decided to totally scrap what I have and start fresh. The basic concept is the same. I like the idea I am working with, but I am going to write the book again. I don't want to publish something I'm not proud of and am less than confident you all will enjoy. Of course, I realize that it makes Spiral very very late and that's disappointing for me as well as for you, but I think in the long run it will be best. I have about 25,000 words of the new version (Elemental Rising finished at 80,000 words for those of you that need a benchmark) and since I write pretty fast once I get going I am hoping to have it finished in good time.

I will keep you posted. I appreciate your support and patience! :-)

Coming Down . . .

So, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am going to un-publish One Black Rose after tomorrow, Wednesday. I want to get a new cover and do some edits and it just seems easier if I take it down. August and Autumn are probably going to follow by the end of June, so that people who have picked up One Black Rose have time to get those, but if you haven't gotten One Black Rose and you want to, be sure to grab it by tomorrow while it's there and free!!!

Another pretty, new cover!!

Paranormal Public got a new cover tonight and I couldn't be more excited. I like that Victoria Faye kept the original concept and just made it all kinds of gorgeous. I really love it :-) I hope you all do too!!!

Name Change and other exciting news!!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all are having a great week. I am as of right now, because the cover for Museum of Masks has just arrived. First, you need to know that I have changed the name of the book to Elemental Rising. There are a variety of reasons that this made sense, but I just want to make it clear that it is the SAME book. I did not write the third book in two weeks. None of you all would want to read that. The cover was done by Sybille over at Magpie Magic and for anyone looking for gorgeous covers I definitely recommend checking her out. She was wonderful. Anyway, I love love love the cover and am really excited that it is beautiful and professional now.

My other update is that Elemental Rising was reviewed by the Elizabeth over at Wading Through Electronic Ink. I feel sure that she doesn't do anything but read, given how fast she turns out lovely reviews, but I am delighted to have it. Check it out here:

Tuesday or Wednesday release

Hi Everyone,

Museum of Masks is going to be uploaded Tuesday or Wednesday according to my editor. When she tells me she is uploading it I will do a post. I would just like to say thanks to everyone for being patient. I really appreciate it. I know you all have been waiting a really long while and been taking time out of your day to check in with me. You are all wonderful. Just so everyone knows, I was due to move at the end of April, and the plan was to publish Museum right before I did that, but I ended up moving in the middle of April, which threw everyone off. Before I release my next book I am going to figure out a better way to do release dates. I will just have to build in some time to the schedule to allow for unexpected events happening in my life and the life of the people who put so much work into getting the book out. I am always so excited to get the books out that I want to release them at the soonest possible date, but I have an editor, beta readers and proofreaders and they all have their own lives to factor in as well. I very much want to do right by them and by you my delightful readers, so I will need to figure that out in the future. I desperately wanted an April release date, but it is, in fact, going to be May first or second. I'm very sorry about this, but I am glad my editor had the time she needed and that I am happily ensconced in my new home. I'll be in touch tomorrow or Wednesday. Can't wait!

Here's another teaser. Won't be long now! :-)

“This is for my mother,” I breathed. “And for every other elemental who should be here, but isn’t.” Eyes burning, I stepped into the forcefield and was consumed.

Museum of Masks info and teaser

Hi everyone,
As you may have noticed there was no teaser last week, which was because I had to move. Suddenly. Everything is fine, in fact I'm very happy, but it set things back and made me miss a week. For that I apologize. Now, on to the information. My editor still has Museum of Masks, so it doesn't look like it will release Friday, but it will still be April. I know you all have been waiting for it a while and I have been waiting to release it for a while. I hope you will all bear with me. When I have more info you all will be the first to know. Now, here is a teaser. Enjoy.

“Yay for family dinners,” said Ricky grinning. “This outta be fun.”
I couldn’t help it. I giggled and settled in for another visit with my brother.
“I’m home. I’m going to cook everyone dinner to celebrate.” I bustled around the kitchen. Everything felt odd and unfamiliar. At the best of times I was not a good cook - even if Ricky tactfully never actually came out and said that - and now having been at college for a year I was not only still bad, but rusty to boot.
Ricky’s dusty blond eyebrows disappeared under his bangs. “If we are celebrating why are you cooking? Shouldn’t dad and I get a chance to be happy? Lets order pizza. I’ll let you dial.”

Teaser and Spiral Update

Hi everyone, so, first, I wanted to let you know that my editor is enjoying Museum at the moment, so I'm hopeful there won't be too many things I have to change. Also, before I get to the teaser, I just wanted to let you know that Spiral was obviously not released on the first… because it's still with my editor, but should still be out by the end of the month. Since it's kind of out of my hands I will keep you updated here though. :-)

Now, the fun bit. Get a little glimpse of a new character in this one. Here's the teaser! Enjoy.

“I could call you Belle for short,” Trafton offered, his voice filled with honey.
“I wouldn’t,” said Lisabelle.
“Why not?”
“Because I’m assuming you value your life.”
Trafton turned to me. “What are the odds that she’s joking?”
I didn’t even have to consider the question. “Slim to none.”
“Are you sure?”
“Lisabelle doesn’t joke. The last time she laughed she was probably ten and it was at you. Not with you.”

Release date and teaser

Hi,

So, I do believe Museum of Masks will be released by the end of April. I am shooting for April 20th, but since publishing it involves my editors having the proper amount of time to go through it I am not making any promises just yet for that exact day, but woho! The time is almost here! Yay.

Now, here's a teaser. Enjoy.

Sitting in the library, Lanca watched Lough trail out the door after Lisabelle. “What do you think is going to end up happening between those two?”
Sip glanced up from her book, her purple eyes sparkling. “If she doesn’t kill him? They’ll end up married. Don’t tell her I said that,” she added quickly.
Lanca and I both looked at her like she was crazy. Then Lanca started to laugh. Her whole body was engulfed in amused shakes. “I can totally see that happening.”
It was the first time I had seen the vampire princess laugh sine Tale died last semester. And it was over the prospect of Lough and Lisabelle, not just together, but getting married. Sip actually believed that was possible. As usual, my eyes flicked to Keller. He was leaning against a bookcase, arms crossed over his chest. Pale skin stood out against the dark fabric of his t-shirt and the weight of his arms dragging on his shirt made his chest more visible and defined. I remembered his arm sliding past me in my room before Christmas break, muscles taught as he moved. Suddenly conscious of being caught staring, I shifted my gaze back to my desk. I missed his eyes turning towards me.
“Don’t laugh so hard,” said Sip, pointing her pencil at Lanca - one of the vampires around her growled and Sip dropped the pencil. The vampires didn’t care who it was, no one was allowed to threaten Lanca after what happened at the Dash finals. - Sip continued, “If Lisabelle get’s married her misery will want company.”
“What do you mean by that?” I asked suspiciously.
Sip picked up the pencil again and calmly started to write. “She will make us all be bridesmaids.”
I flinched. Lanca nodded knowingly. “She’s just that kind of mean. Demons would be anything compared to trying to deal with Lisabelle on her wedding. I’d take fighting the President over that any day. Can you imagine what she will make us wear?” I had a vision of black dresses with long sleeves, for most people probably more fitting for a funeral procession. From the looks on Lanca and Sip's faces their thoughts were along similar lines.
Just then Keller shifted into my line of vision and I felt myself sighing. When he was studying his face was clear and concentrated, there was no frown. His smooth forehead was only covered by a single curl of dark hair. I wished he was still my tutor. I wished he would kiss me again.

Museum of Masks Quote

Little different this time. Here's a bit from more of an action scene. Enjoy!

“GET OUT. YOU HAVE TO GET OUT. WE CAN’T HELP ANYONE ELSE NOW. ANYONE ELSE IN THE TOWER IS SURELY DEAD.”
“There’s no way anyone else is getting out of there alive. Let it go!” yelled Professor Lambros. Tears made her eyes bright as she shoved me further away.
I tripped as I turned, landing on the ground, cushioned by the dusty mud that covered it. I looked wildly back at the Tower. Flames shot out from every angle, every window was ablaze in orange fire. It kept growing higher and higher into the night sky, as if trying to touch the heavens. Fingers of flame reached around to meet each other, linking in greeting, making ever larger chains as the Tower burned. Black smoke ran in streams like water pouring from a faucet. I blinked rapidly as the acrid air hit my eyes.
All I knew was that a paranormal had kept the pathway clear for us. A paranormal had made sure we were safe.
It could only have been one person.
“KELLER,” I screamed. “KELLER.” I felt like I had been punched in the gut. I wanted to put both hands on my stomach to stop the pain, but I knew it wouldn’t go away.

New Series! Spiral.

Hi Everyone, so I've been working on this for a while and now that the cover is almost done I wanted to share. I am starting a new series and the first book is going to be titled Spiral. I'm very excited about it and I hope you are too!! :-) Below is the cover and the book description. The cover was done by the amazing Victoria Faye and I love it so so much! Check it out.

And here's the description:

Natalie Monroe has had some strange experiences in her life.
She has the ability to heal with her touch, but she doesn't know why…
No one can lie in her presence…

And she has white hair and silver eyes...

Her best friend AJ has stood by her through everything, while the new guy in town, Pierce Hudson, has the same silver eyes.

And Pierce knows why.

Pierce and Natalie have the same eyes because they’re both descendants of unicorns.

Nothing is simple for Natalie any more.  There are unknown forces coming after her from all sides, and no one is telling her the whole truth.

Yay!! Release date is April 1st. :-)

Museum of Masks Quote

Hi Everyone,
So, I still don't have an exact release date, but I have been working on Museum of Masks and have decided that from now on every Tuesday I will try and share a quote with you all. So, just in case any of you forgot about the special relationship between Sip and Lisabelle, here's a reminder. Enjoy :-)

Lough picked up his lunch tray and headed out of the dining hall. As he was walking away Lisabelle stared at his back, her spoon trailing through her soup.
“I wonder if he’s on something. Happy pills maybe. It’s definitely not normal to be that pleasant,” said Lisabelle thoughtfully.
“If he is we should ask him to share some with you,” said Sip, ducking the napkin Lisabelle threw at her while I laughed. “Then again,” Sip continued, grinning wickedly, “he might not have enough.”

Lots of good books

Hi Everyone,

Samantha Young recently did an amazing, awesome, and delightful review of One Black Rose. She reviews a lot of books (where she finds the time when she's so busy writing great books of her own I don't know), so if you are looking around for books to read you might check out this:

http://www.samanthayoungbooks.com/2012/03/books-books-glorious-books.html

She has a list of a lot of titles there that look really good, including one of mine!! So exciting. Ahh.

Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend.

Museum of Masks Synopsis

Here we are.

Charlotte returns to Paranormal Public for her second semester knowing that she must embrace yet another new destiny.
She wasn’t expecting it to be easy, and it isn’t.
Now, demons beat at the protections surrounding Public, and inside the safety of the grounds is a new threat, an ancient resentment that has nothing to do with demons, but is born of a much more personal pain.
Luckily, she isn’t the target.
Or is she?
Now, she and her friends must stand together to protect each other, even if they don’t know why... until it’s too late.

Samantha Young reviewed One Black Rose. :-)

I posted this to my Facebook Page and now here it is on the blog. Made my week. So happy.

http://www.samanthayoungbooks.com/2012/02/indie-novels-that-have-rocked-my-week.html

Samantha's books are some of my favorite, thus the happy dance when she did a review. If you haven't read anything of hers you definitely need to check her out. First books in her series are Moon Spell, Slumber, Blood Will Tell, and Smokeless Fire, start with one, then read the rest. And yeah, I know those off the top of my head, because I've read all of her books multiple times. :-)

I have uploaded Autumn. VERY excited about it. Can't wait for it to go live. As I'm sure a lot of you know, it will take up to 24 hours for it to appear in the Kindle store, so sometime tomorrow. :-) I just want to thank everyone who has enjoyed the series. Getting messages from readers makes me soooo happy. I really appreciate it. :-)

Paranormal Public Sequel!

I have landed on a title for the sequel to Paranormal Public. It's something that has interested me for a long time, possibly because of my history major background. That's right, in college I was an American history major and I loooovvveedd it.

Anyway. :)

I am planning on calling the sequel "Museum of Masks." Of course, nothing is set in stone until I publish the book, but I thought I would give you guys an update in the meantime. I'm pretty excited about it. "Museum of Masks" is going to take place over Charlotte, Lisabelle, Sip and co's, second semester at Public.

Now, to your question about when the lovely-titled "Museum of Masks" is coming out. Well, I am very sorry to say (especially to Courtney) that it will not be out this month, but I am hoping for either March or April. As usual, when I have a clearer idea I will update you.

Lastly, it is my plan to release the synopsis and excerpts once the book is a bit more complete, so be sure to check those out! Thank you so much for the delightful response I've gotten from all of you. It's been truly wonderful.

A book recommendation!

Hi, I thought it would be fun to highlight some other books by self-published authors that I have read and enjoyed. So, every so often I'll write about it here. My first such post is going to be about Enchantment by Charlotte Abel. I already wrote a review for Goodreads, so I'm just going to re-post it below.

I had been seeing positive reviews about this for a while and I finally decided to see what all of the fuss was about. Well, turns out the reviews were right! I really enjoyed this book. The heroine, Channie, is a strong character, but she also has some vulnerabilities. It made her easy to relate to and root for. The magical aspect was great. I liked that Channie already knew about magic and that her navigating its use among non-magical humans created complications for her. Overall, this was a fast and lovely read. I will definitely be reading more by Charlotte Abel.

Also, as an added bonus, I went and checked out Charlotte's blog and it says the next book in the series, Empty, is coming out any day now! Exciting!
